Singing at the races!

It was a blustery day at Wincanton on Thursday 5th December for the Christmas Party Raceday at Wincanton Racecourse and, although it wasn’t raining, the going was soft. There were lots of people, and it was going to be fun. Thrills and Spills!!

More than that, the Race-day Management Team at the Racecourse had invited the Wincanton Choral Society to sing in the Paddock Pavilion for the entertainment of the Racegoers.

We had a brilliant day. Simon Twiselton, our Musical Director, accompanied by Katrine Reimers on the piano, led nearly sixty choir members in three performances of our Christmas Choral Fare. There was an even balance of Soprano, Alto, Tenor and Bass singers and we performed a selection of Christmas Carols and the Hallelujah Chorus from Handel’s Messiah. We received great applause from the many race-goers taking a break from their racing in the large Marquee at the back of the Stands.

It went so well that there was talk of inviting us back again. Let’s hope so! We had great fun
